The Acer Travelmate X483 is an excellent, thin, inexpensive 14" laptop with the following specifications:
- Core i3 2375M / 1.5 GHz
- Linux
- 4 GB RAM
- 500 GB HDD
- DVD-Writer
- 14" wide 1366 x 768 / HD
- Intel HD Graphics 3000
It works great with ubermix, with 2 minor exceptions:
- The touchpad is disabled on boot, and the standard keyboard controls don't enable/disable it
- Brightness controls don't work without running the Brightness controls fix
To activate the touchpad without making any changes, you can press ctrl-fn-F7, but this is less than ideal, as the keys must be pressed every time the system is (re)booted. Fortunately, the fix for this problem is relatively easy:
- Open a terminal (ctrl-alt-t)
- Type: echo "blacklist acer_wmi" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-acer_wmi.conf
After performing this function, the touchpad will stay enabled on reboot. Of course, if you want to make this change survive a reset, you'll want to make it in generic mode. For further information, see [1]
